Puma sportswear said it will pull endorsement money from any music performers, venues, labels, etc., that condone violence against gays and lesbians worldwide. Puma was co-sponsor of an Olympics concert by anti-gay singer Buju Banton, and they were quite upset after.
Buju Banton's appearances in Saarbruecken, Hamburg and Darmstadt, Germany, have been cancelled.
Amnesty International has received information from reputable national and international human-rights organizations concerning reports that Buju Banton was involved in a homophobic attack. These reports take the form of statements that allege that on June 24, 2004, six men were driven from their home and beaten by a group of armed men, and that the alleged assailants included Buju Banton (Mark Anthony Myrie). The reports further allege that this attack was apparently motivated by hatred of gay men: the victims reported that both before and during the attack the assailants had called the men 'battymen' (homosexuals).
Beenie Man, who wants to 'execute' gay men and lesbians, has a concert set for Miami Aug. 28.
Despite an alleged apology issued by Virgin Records for their singer, Beenie Man's own people deny he has apologized, and he has vowed to continue condemning gays.
Jamaican reggae star Sizzla, who boasts that he 'kills' queers, is due to perform in Montreal Aug. 27.
