Oak Park has festivals and traditions that bring neighbors together throughout the year. You might attend a block party or progressive dinner on your street. All summer long, downtown Oak Park hosts a block party called Thursday Night Out that feels like a taste of Oak Park, with live music and samples from all of the best restaurants on Marion and Lake streets. On Saturdays, locals line up early for the freshly made donuts at the Oak Park Farmer’s Market. Oaktoberfest officially welcomes the fall.
Oak Park has an excellent library system. The Oak Park and River Forest High School was ranked in the top 5% of high schools nationally by the US News and World Report. District 97, the public school district serving Kindergarten through 8th grade, produces well-rounded students who are ready for high school. There are a diverse array of clubs, sports, and activities from the award winning Bravo musical theatre troupe, to the Vex Robotics competitions sponsored by the Oak Park Education Foundation.
The Village of Oak Park has a long history of supporting the LGBTQIA communities.
