Brittney Griner is expecting her first child with wife Cherelle Griner.

According to NBC News, the couple announced on Instagram that they are expecting their baby in July. "Can't believe we're less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being," the caption read, with the hashtags, #BabyGrinerComingSoon and #July2024.

The couple met at Baylor University and got married in June 2019. Brittney Griner was drafted to the WNBA in 2013 and has played for the Phoenix Mercury since.

Brittney was detained in Russia in February 2022 after customs agents at a Moscow airport said they found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage. She was sentenced to nine years at a Russian gulag, but was eventually freed in December 2022 after President Joe Biden negotiated her release in exchange for a Russian arms dealer..

Also, Brittney—a nine-time WNBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist—has the memoir Coming Home debuting May 7, per a Knopf press release. It's an account of the basketball icon's arrest and detainment in Russia as well as her journey home.
